How many of you out there have been booked for doing 36>>38mph in a 30mph zone? would you, have you questioned this knowing that know you where doing 30mph, would you just except it? have you ever thought that your Speedo is out & would you try a HGV Testing centre at your own cost to clarify that your speedo is wrong, this can be done by using their rolling road.
I just use common sense and never do more than what appears to be 33 /34 which, from sat nav readings, I know is about 30. So no, I would never use a rolling road.
Same as Boxy... I am very careful about sticking to speed limits, especially because I am a young driver.
There is one thing that annoys me though. You know those signs at the side of the road that flash up with your speed? There are two in one area near me and one of them always says about 34-36mph while the other one is always lower at 26-28mph. How can this be when my speedo is bang on 30 at both times?!
I got a tug off a very shouty PSNI officer in Newry for doing 74mph in a 70 but didn't get done for it.
Re speedo accuracy they have one of those signs that displays your speed outside a school in Monaghan, when I go past with my speedo reading 50km/h the sign shows 48km/h
I would like to think modern speedos are fairly accurate, i also know drivers who have been done for doing 33 & 34 mph by a speed camera,so that ruins the allowed 10% speedo error theory..
I think some above may be attaching some significance to their speedos. Your speedo is irrelevant to a speeding charge. It is not a defence or mitigation if it's wrong.
With respect Boxy, I know what it feels like! this is what I am saying to the accuracy of the speedo, at one time the plod let you off within 5% but now, I do not think they will.
All I'm saying is that if you are speeding you are speeding, the speedo reading would not matter to the legal process. It is the motorists responsibility to have the speedo correct. In fact I think it's an offence in it's own right anyway.
