Just a thought - the mat isn't under the throttle pedal is it? Happened to me once - v. embarassing!
Question Author
hi,
definetly not the mat, and the car revs instantly when you touch the throttle.
Pipe going to the Turbo cracked / perished causing an influx of to much air, have you noticed excessive black smoke coming out of the lately? If yes, Turbo.
Question Author
hi, no smoke, but fitted a blanking plate into the evr pipe several weeks ago because car was running iffy and smoking ( sooty stuff on hard accelleration),
that cured the problem and the turbo has been working o.k. until last week.
You have a turbo prob Percy, is the reason you blanked off the turbo was running with less power & black smoke? thats your problem, check EBay for a replacement.

Hi All,
Had a good look at the pipes to the turbo, all seem very good, no hissing noises or signs of ware or damage. I removed the hose from the air filter to the turbo, can feel the blades, it tuns by hand, there is no sideways play, i have watched the device on the top of the turbo under the vacuum pipe, and when you throttle up it opens up accordingly. there has been no black smoke since i fitted the egr blanking plate, and the turbo worked fine for several weeks after. I am not quite sure of the workings of a turbo, but assumed that if the fan turned o.k. by hand that it should work. are there any electrical connections? any ideas?
thanks,
Percy.
I'll stand to be corrected Percy, the Turbo should come into play around 15 1600 revs it is powered within by the air flow + lubricated by oil, by right the Turb should be maintained by the start up of the car leave it to run for 2>>3mins for the oil to circulate and the same should be done when shutting down, the engine should switched off around 2>>3mins after the journey has ended but no-one does.
