What moped should I buy?

What make of moped should my friend buy. He is buying one secondhand. What should he look out for?

Any help gratefully appreciated. Budget �750-800

Depends what style he likes. A lot seem to be going for the 60s/70s style with the footwell at the moment, but my son had a Derbi Senda, which is styled on a motocross bike - and it went better than his friends' mopeds too actually. It sounded more like a proper bike as well, instead of a hairdryer! His budget should get him anything he wants as long as he's not looking at something brand new. I'd say he'll get a year 1998-2002 with that budget.

Whatever he gets - and I'm showing my age here, going all clucky and mumsy - just tell him to be careful on it. You can kill yourself a lot easier on a moped doing 30mph than in a car doing the same speed. Besides, it's not only your own driving you have to watch; it's all the other nutters out there!
