Does anyone know what the letters MOT stand for??

Ministry of Transport

It is Ministry of Transport - but they are usually used to describe the MOT test - a test of vehicle safety. It is now administered by VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency).

In the motor trade the MOT is known as the ticket - RFL or road fund license (tax disk) is called the rent

But, as mentioned, the MOTs are administered by Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) - an Executive Agency of the Department for Transport.

DfT has replaced the name of MOT within the government although the term MOT has been kept to the public to avoid confusion.

The former MOT Tester Inspectorate (now VOSA) are civil servants that train mechanics/technicians to be MOT testers.
