I'm looking to buy my first car and wondered if anybody could recommend a good small car thats preferably less than 8000 and thats cheap to run and insure, only requirements are central locking and electric front windows, and also has to have purple/lilac as a colour option!
Thanks =)

My daughters friend bought a Kia Picanto for 5500 new, its a lovely little car, not much boot space but economical for petrol and insurance.  I was surprised when we went on a test run with her how spacious it felt for a small car, in fact I was so impressed I am thinking of buying one for myself.

I've always been a fan of Japanese cars so if I was purchasing a car for around that price then I'd probably get a Honda Civic (relatively low insurance).
ANYTHING that is a VW
A Diesel Corsa.  It will cost you a grand more than petrol but comes with plenty of extras and being diesel costs less to run.  Servicing is marginally more expensive.
I bought a seat ibiza and love it. Perfect first car, a/c, windows etc, cheap to run, cheap to service, tax and insure. But big enough to get my stuff in back to uni. As it shares a chassis with VW and audi, its quite well put together and reliable and I love it. Not sure about the colour option, but easy to find out. As another thought you might consider the Honda Jazz - should be able to find one in your price range, and they come in fab colours. Meant to be great little cars.

you do realise that by buying a purple/lilac car, if you plan to sell privately when you get rid of it you'll be absolutely wedged with it?

so long as that's ok, how about a honda jazz or nissan micra, the micras come with an astonishing amount of extras...

anything with a kia or punto badge i would not recommend, but that's personal preference.  vw i would, but they're expensive to buy new and if you bought it new, you'd probably want vw servicing which also doesn't come cheap...
