Over the last few years there have been experiments using Sunflower oil to power diesel engine cars.  Does anyone know of similar experiments as an alternative to unleaded fuel?

Was sunflower oil used in petrol engines though?  I thought it was used in diesel engines?

Unleaded petrol is more refined than both diesel and sunflower oil so I wouldn't expect it to work.  Modern unleaded petrol is usually 95 Octane (with super being 98 Octane - same as old 4 star).

Perhaps not an alternative to sunflower oil but certainly cheaper than petrol is L.P.G. at 30-odd p per litre.  You can get a grant to convert your petrol engine.  The gas gives slightly less power than petrol and slightly less m.p.g. but works out overall a lot cheaper.  The conversion is reversable should you need it.
