And I found that out using askmid
Now, I know it says on there this
"I understand it is an offence to wrongfully obtain information of this nature without any of the above reasonable causes"
But as he has a different car every few weeks, most of the untaxed, would my checking count as reasonable cause?

And, is there anywhere to report on line rather than calling 101?

Isn't the answer in the 'reasonable causes'?
what are the above reasonable causes?
"my checking count as reasonable cause? "

NO!

"I am entitled to the insurance information about the vehicle detailed above for one or more of the following reasons: It is either registered/ owned/ insured by me or my employer; I am permitted to drive it; I am an Insurance Broker or agent and acting on behalf of my client."

So basically, you made a false declaration to obtain the information, and have committed an offence.

Thanks sirprize, I've looked at that its for unlicensed vehicles not uninsured

OK, so what now then? I know a car is out there being driven regularly, uninsured and I'm to do nothing?
It sometimes can take 48 hours to update the askmid database.

Thanks sirprize :)

It's unlikely he is insured tho given that usually he is untaxed
I'd just drop a wink to the local plod, he may then find himself the subject of a spot check...............
jeeze nice neighbour
good idea craft, if you can find one , round here you are lucky if you see one, even when there is an R in the month.
Do you mean oj or his neighbour fried?

I would definitely shop anyone who I knew to be driving around uninsured.
It's a worse crime than some people think. Imagine if he hit someone and permanently disabled them.
lol baza we have a couple of community police officers around here.....they would wet their knickers at the thought of catching a tax/insurance dodger.
As per Craft, just don't even mention you've been near any database. Just phone 101 and say something along the lines, you see the guy opposite with a succession of cars, some don't display tax certs, and you think they may be untaxed and uninsured.
agree with you craft , when caught the cars should be crushed with the driver in it.
phone IR tell them he's selling cars from home

or is that too evil?
^ Well that may be slightly OTT but agree in principle.
but it would be funny to watch

if he has a new one every few weeks perhaps he is a dealer - otherwise it seems a lot of hoohaa to go through every few weeks -

perhaps he has some sort of 'dealership coverall insurance' that covers him for all cars - any more than someone being insured to drive any car would show on everyone elses docs...

my dad is insured to drive any car - but he doesnt appear on the docs for all the cars hes drives...
