Hi,

I bought a car recently with a personalised number plate on it, I do not want it and would like to put the original one back on it. I have done a quick search on the internet and have been quoted £600 for the personlised one. Can someone tell me the process for doing all this and who would be the best people to speak to. I just tried DVLA but they appear to be on strike.........useful :-)

Thank

Hi, If you go on the DVLA Site it will direct you to what you want.
You apply to the DVLA to put the number on a retention certificate. The DVLA will assign you a new number, usually the original one. You will get a document authorising the changing of the plates on the car, which must be done by an approved agent such as Halfords. You then sell the number on the retention certificate.
But all this has to be done via the DVLA when they're not on strike or their site is down!
Strange, it works on my computer.

i would look elsewhere to sell... i was quoted 300 for mine and it isnt even personalised ... the 3 letters just 'could' spell someones 6 letter name ... you could probably get a lot more
