Tax your car online
Isn't it one of the most efficient and convenient service ever? I only do it once a year but I'm always impressed.
Remembering back to the days of standing in line in the post office with the various documents, checking and double checking you had them all and that they were in date. Woe betide you if you had your Insurance Statement instead of your Insurance Certificate!

Try renewing a passport online as well - fill in the form and pay for it on day 1. The form, correctly filled out, arrives the next day for your photograph and signature. Post it back and they send your new passport to you. I swear to god, the last time I did this, the whole exercise took five days in total.

I so totally agree.
One year I was refused a tax disc at the Post Office because I presented an insurance certificate that started on the day the tax disc was to start. She said I had to present a current one for the day I was applying.
The next year at a different Post Office I was refused a disc for the exact opposite reason, I presented a current certificate not the one for the period of the disc.
Never again will I subject myself to the tyranny of a badly trained little Hitler.

I'll remember that for the passport SeaJayPea.
gsr9600 - I do sympathise with those losing their jobs at DVLA local offices, and I do hope I don't eat my words when if I need help with a drivers licence or anything, but taxing your car at the postoffice was a nightmare and very old fashioned in its attitude.

I always tax my car at the Post Office once a year. I use a quiet sub-post office on an estate and it takes about two minutes. It's not hard to get the right documents - there are only three. It's only once a year so it's really not an inconvenience.
However, I'm sure I'll have to renew on-line soon as the time won't be far off when the Post Office will stop the service. More post offices will close then, more people out of work etc.
