5. Repeat driving test every 5 years, IMHO, as the test has changed soooo much since WE all learned to drive, which would keep us all upto date.
I've thought that for a long time Nibble, so I vote for 5 also!
6) Make motorway training compulsary
And 6 for me, it's compulsory everywhere else in the EU - WHY not here???

That's ok in Oz, but here in the UK, you don't have to drive on motorways/night/etc..., and as such our driving test has no minimum hours/high speed roads, or any other "problem" issues which are the norm when actually driving.
Perhaps the government could spend a fair amount of the billions it creams from the motorist on improving the infrastructure and quality of our roads. Wishful thinking.
tougher penalties for those who break the law
I'm not sure I agree with any of those, if any I probably err on the side of tougher penalties.

I would like to see new drivers have a speed limit for the first year or a similar kind of limitation. Given how distracting passengers can be that might be something to consider too. Being the designated driver for your pssd teenage mates is an enormous burden but one you feel obliged to take on because you have your license and want to show off. Recipe for disaster....

Passing your test isn't the same as knowing how to drive, a mistake that many young folk learn in a rather unpleasant manner.
There are over 40 million driving licences in the UK. There is only 1825 days in 5 years making it impossible to retest drivers every 5 years.
1)Tougher penalties for law breakers.

2) Tougher eyesight requirements.

3) Compulsory medical from age 60, and repeated every 5yrs thereafter.
I went for B, but I definately would overhaul the highway code and road rules too most of it was written when vehicles where much cruder than they are today.
o None of the above.

Driving is dangerous full stop and there are too many variables to facilitate any significant change IMO. Fit all new cars with incense diffusers to calm the drivers down maybe.
Remove all steering wheel air bags, and replace each with a sharp spike.
Indeed Moonrocker, I don't believe the stopping distances have been revised since the days of Ford Anglias and Vauxhall Vivas on crossply tyres with drum brakes all round.
LOL - all the Daily Mail readers are assuming that the roads are full of wreckless idiots and outlaws and missing the obvious point (IMO) that this is a densely populated country full of massively varying abilities where it's inevitable we're *going* to bump into each other at some point.
Restrict the maximum speed of vehicles at the manufacturing stage. Seems upside down to me to build high speed cars and then have to install calming measures, speed limits and penalties for those who drive them to the max.
Hopkirk - you forgot to mention the delicate glass bubble at the front where the driver's heads should situated ;-)
You wouldn't get repeat offenders, and everyone would drive a lot more carefully!
Bah ...poooeh !
