Would you think that this car would be a write-off?

54 reg Focus estate, has done about 75,000 miles, in good condition (before yesterday) crashed into the back of a lorry, will need new bonnet, windscreen, front wing, headlight and surround, front grill and bumper and radiator - those were just the bits I could see - I don't know if there is any more structural damage. I'm going to get someone to assess it today, but think deep down that this may be a write-off - unfortunately I'm only insured for 3rd party, fire and theft.

Sounds very much like it I'm afraid. Probably worth around £2000 max on a forecourt so it would be easier for the insurance company to write it off rather than put it in for repair, and don't forget you will only get the going market price for it.

Yes, that's rather what I thought - I just had a look on Parkers, and I would think that the car would be valued arond £1500 - a real shame, she was a lovely little car. Thanks moonraker.
i think it would be a write off, too islasmum. i'm really sorry you are having such a broccoli time of it at the moment....x
Sounds like it will be written off, imo.
Your decision I would have thought, if you don't have comprehensive cover.

From your description I would not have thought it was economically repairable.
Without a doubt.
If that's just the damage you can see there is bound to be damage you can't see.
Don't think a smart repair will put it right,do you ummmm.
its dead !!!...
no doubt the front panel has gone, did the bonnet take the screen out ? if not there is something far more serious going on . A qualified estimator will pick up more than you ever will.
Air bags have gone off as well chas !
Depending on the speed you hit the lorry? there's every possibility in will have knocked the alignment out Islasmum, it can be rejigged but they are NEVER right, do not bother.
that explains the screen...how do you know the air bags have gone off, they should have but i cant see it in the post....

54 Focus + airbags deployed = write off
I don't think auto denting will do the job.

My car, which was worth more than yours, was written off with just panel damage.
Here you go Chas

Thanks everyone, I'm fine now - I got £150 scrap for the car, which paid the police's recovery charge! So we were out looking at cars yesterday and I think that we may have found a replacement for it - another Ford Focus Estate - 4 years old and has only done 12,800 miles. And whatever car we get I'm going back to fully comprehensive insurance!
