After 2006 the exhausts are a lot more expensive, but £500 is still well over the top.

That's very expensive. A complete new system is only a couple of hundred fitted.

Here's a breakdown of the whole system, if that's what's required, for a 2008 1.3 petrol engined car. Add fitting, which shouldn't be more than ~£75, even with the dreaded VAT.

i think it would be pre 2006, the price was for parts and fitting at a well known car repair garage,

my OH has a kia and he's always having to pay alot for repairs at the kia garage and so he's started taking it elsehwhere, he also had the brakes done at a kwik fit and it was £600, he went balastic, they reduced the bill pretty quick!
