I was wondering if you could tell me what a good MPG is?

Or does it depend on a lot of factors?

Petrol or Diesel?

Town driving or open road cruising?

Big car or small car?
Question Author
17 year old Vitara
country/town driving
1600
Petrol
At a rough guess you might be getting 35mpg.
Question Author
Ok an getting 30
Actually, with town driving and an old but fairly large engine, that is probably more realistic than my guess. Also I remember now it is automatic, which increases fuel use.

You might manage to improve it a little with less use of accelerator and brakes.
It does rather depend on the car and also, where and how you drive it. I drive a large 2.0l diesel saloon and get around 48-50mpg, whereas my wifes car is a 1.4l petrol small hatchback and she gets low 30s.

The difference really is that my car goes with little effort and I tend to drive on M and A roads, whereas she drives around town and needs to flat foot the gas pedal to get up to 30 mph in less than 20 seconds. Both cars are less than 5 years old.

So I'm not doing to bad then?
To gain a good Petrol MPH, correct Tyre pressures, No roof Rack, car serviced correctly, Plugs / Air Cleaner / Petrol Filter / how quickly the car has warmed up, For a Derv, the car / van not to be black smoking that indicated either replacing the the injectors with Recon or new depends on your pocket, or badly serviced engine. & the most important, " Your Right foot"
Question Author

running like a dream I was just wondering if the MPG was good as she only has a small tank (35 litres) and I seem to be filling her up all the time!
Type Your Answer Here...Fried, the next time you visit your local Hal ford, car spare shop , filling up your car bye a bottle of REDX Carb cleaner,it about a fiver, read the instructions & follow, although you should have a few miles on the car, this will help, the car / van should have covered for its milage 150,000 whats it done? that will determine the engine wear.
