I'm going to get a new stereo for the car which I reckon I'll be able to fit myself. I've looked at how to remove the current stereo (factory fitted) and there are these sort of key things you have to push into slots at the front to remove it. Do I have to buy them or could I use something else? It's a Mk4 Golf.
Best to buy the EvianBaby, they lock onto spring loaded clips inside if the slots are horizontal.
If it's a standard size unit with two vertical slots then any piece of thin flat steel will do.
You may find wiring issues depending on the year of the car but they can be taken care of with aftermarket connectors for the most part.
if you go to halfords with the new stereo they will fit it for a few quid which is better than faffing about yourself, you don't need to have bought the stereo there either
well my local halfords charges me £5 to fit mine about 3months ago. they advertise on our local radio that they will do any fit for £6.99, sounds odd they want £40, was that because it's a limo and you have surround sound and them banging woofer things in it
I assume you're changing it so you can get an AUX input, and not due to quality reasons?
If you're doing it for quality reasons leave the stereo and get better speakers first, factory fit stereos are normally pretty good these days, factory fit speakers are generally crap.
The CD player is screwed and it's so old it still has a tape deck so I've bought one that I can play my iphone through which has also got bluetooth so I can use hands free too.
