I need to change the front coil spring on a 97 Renault Clio 1.2

Are there any special tools required and are there any websites that talk you through the job?

You'll need a couple of spring compression tools.  They have hooks on either end which you hook onto either end of the spring and are then tightend up to compress the spring.  I dont think they are too expensive but I managed to borrow some when replaceing the front suspension spring on my old sierra  Be carefull though and try to tighten one side a little then tighten the other side an equal amount.  If you don't, as happened to me my spring flew off other the garage roof. lol

Jay 70, you were very lucky, I have heard of people who have had very serious accidents using that type of tool if they're not familiar with them.  One guy nearly lost the side of his face when the tool slipped.

AngelofDeath, your best bet is to go and invest in a Haynes manual for your car and follow the instructions to the letter, they are not dear and can save you an awful lot of trouble in the end.  I know that Haynes manuals can be a bit long winded but, its the end result that counts and they do take safety seriously.
