Mike bought a Peugeot 205gti in this episode, and whilst driving it back to Ed his mechanic, the car started belching out clouds of smoke.
A sloppy gear linkage was repaired and Ed stated near the end of the program that repairing the linkage had cured the smoking.
I am not a mechanic but, I cant see how an external repair not connected in any way to the engine, can cure a car not to belch smoke.
I've no idea. I watched one where they did up a Merc SLK. Used their TV influence to get the parts cheap. Had a couple of days free top mechanicing and then bragged about selling it for a profit! What a load of tosh.
Edd China is actually a top mechanic and does know his stuff (mike brewer needs a punch in the face or two!)
It's a TV program, this car was covered on various other forums quite extensively and it seems it had a cracked block that was sorted but that bit was "edited" out for the TV program.
The premise of the program is that the work is to be done by a home enthusiast. It's patently obvious that most of the repairs would lose money if true commercial rates were factored in. Far from "stupid" I find it a very informative and useful program and Ed has certainly inspired me to do jobs I would never have attempted before.
I like the program but why OH why does Ed use the term " A shinny New Bolt / washer/Part? regards Mike, he would be better off selling Ice Cream at Blackpool.
