buying a motorbike

Do you need to have a bike lisence to buy a motorbike from a dealer? We want to buy my dad a motorbike as he hasnt had one for a few years. He has a full lisence but would I be able to buy it for him without having one myself?

My eldest daughter and her husband bought brand new 600's [Suzuki and Kawasaki] and stored them in their garage until they passed their tests.

ianess is right of course! There is no obligation to prove you can drive before purchasing a vehicle.

Can't see a problem with that but make sure he would be able to handle the difference in power of a modern bike, and that he's not gonna be a born again biker statistic.

Thanks for your answers, I had it in my mind for some reason that you needed one. He is a very sensible rider, always had bikes up until 3 years ago and that was 900cc. I don't even think we would get one that powerful for him, just something for him to go out and about on when he fancies getting out the house on a hot day.
