Who knew that DVLA, in their wisdom are closing all local offices by December 2013?

WHAT A DISGRACE.

They want everything to be either sent through the post or to update changes on the internet. Just to save money.

Well gauranteed, this will not work. Not many of the public knows about this & when the results of the consultation were received, there were hardly any responses in favour of this. But they are still going ahead with this very silly idea.

WELL DONE DVLA!

What have Woolworths done?

Closed all their offices (their shops) and now do everything online.

More and more companies are going that way so why not the DVLA?
I knew. It's been on the cards for at least two years and was very well publicised.

I hope you're a driver. You'll find out sooner rather than later.

I can assure you, it was not 'very well publicised'...fact.
I'm a driver, I've only ever dealt with the DVLA by post or online, so whats new?
Well I didn’t know.

I’m sure most of the punters who currently turn up at their offices could do their business on line or through the post.

The last time I had cause to attend my nearest DVLA office (which is around 15 miles away) – I had purchased a vehicle that was on a cherished plate which was being retained by the owner. I can’t recall all the ins & outs of taxing the vehicle, but with all the documents showing the wrong registration, I had to take all the paperwork to their office to get the vehicle taxed – otherwise I would have not been able to drive the vehicle for days (possibly weeks) until the documents had been sorted out.

I don’t think that I could have legally driven the vehicle on the road, while I was waiting for DVLA to get their act together.
This is well known been talking about it for at least 2 years. FACT
I knew about it - I've known for ages. It's a pita though because I am the person who forgets and then has to nip down to the local office to renew the tax the day or two after it expires.
Has, you're online talking to us, so you have Internet access and can use it, so what is the problem? I've only dealt with the DVLA on line for some time now, so no change there!
Barmaid, why do you go to the local DVLA office to renew your tax, surely a local post office can do that?
It's actually easier to go to the DVLA office Chuck, since the nearest local post office normally has a queue a 1000 yards long and you have to pay to park. Apart from the main post office (where you can lose 3 hours of your life), there are 2 post offices near here that do it, but the queues are SO bad, its just easier to go to the local DVLA office (free parking too). Although the fact that this office is normally dead is potentially a reason why they are closing them........
I prefer to deal with them online, my local office is a pain in the arse to get to, not to mention sitting around waiting for 30 mins to see someone.
Its even easier to renew your tax online :)
I also tax my car online, it's very easy.
Well I knew about it and I don't drive!
I normally tax my car online too, far easier.

I guess I'm lucky with the post offices round here though, whenever I have had to use a post office for anything I think the worst queue I've seen for ages is one person.... normally the longest wait is for a member of staff to actually come round behind the counter because there's no customers there.
Sorry "has" it appears the whole world knew about it bar you.
I knew too. It's called progress, I think.

I much prefer using their website. No queues, no hassle getting parked, can do it any time of the day.

I didn't know - but equally the chances of me ever voluntarily going to a DVLA local office would be right up there with 'has' joining the local mosque ...
lol @ dave!
