Registering Car & MOT

I've recently moved to the UK and have brought my car along with me (2 and a half years old). Can anyone tell me if I have to register it over here and will it need an MOT, also what the expected costs are.
Its possible I'll only be here 6 months to a year so I'm loathe to spend money if I don't have to.

I don't know about registering it but cars are exempt from MOTs until they are 3 years old so you've probably got another 6 months on that front.
