My Car Goes By Itself.

I have a Vauxhall Zafira Estate. It's now one year old.

I have noticed that when trying to drive really slowly in the icy side streets it seems to go by itself. If I take my foot off the clutch and the accelerator, it just keeps going. It scares me to death. It stops if I put the break on but I don't feel in control of the speed. I suspect it's something to do with the automatic choke. Am I activating it in some way?

(I know, I know, this is a really dumb lady's question. All the blokes will be going 'Oh, for goodness sake......................' I can't ask my husband about it because he doesn't drive and won't have a clue.)

I don't venture into the owl section that often, but given the twr quote below, with 38tonnes on the back wouldn't you have been well overloaded?

////Just to put a few right, I have driven the largest, I've driven the smallest, I've had an artic slide on Ice at slow speed with 38tonnes on the back////
Maximum gross weight in this country is 44 tonnes.
You are right that with the weight of truck and trailer, he would be well overweight if his load alone was 38 tonnes.

I was hoping that this thread would fade away as I noticed this morning, to my horror, that I have been typing 'breaking' instead of 'braking'!
Everyone was kind enough not to say anything.
Duh!
I didn't notice, and made the same mistake myself the other day.

The big thaw is imminent, Tilly so the ice problem will go.
Total Gross 38Tonns, I though as a driver you have understood that, It seems not.
As I said I have a Zafira diesel and I know exactly what Tilly is saying.
The 'idle' or 'tickover' revs are around 1.000 , 10 on the rev counter,
It will move forward in idle very easily. It does around 3mph in first gear up to around 40mph in 6th gear. You can actually drive it without touching the accelerator, just change up to go faster and change down to go slower.
It worried me at first but now I am used to it. You can drive through town by just using 5th or 6th gear and never touch the throttle. It cruses at 60 mph and is only tuning 1400rpm .

What are you on about TWR?

You're not making sense. (no change there)
