I have a W reg, 2000 model of the Fiat Punto 1900 JTD HLX.  I have taken it on a round trip of approx 75 miles today, returned home, left the car for a couple of hours before going back out again and now it won't start.  All the lights come on on the dashboard and the stereo still works but there is nothing there when I turn the key.  I have tried putting it in gear, have checked all the fuses and everything appears fine.  Any ideas anyone please????

Hi Spammylou.

Thanks for your suggestion but the battery and the starter motor are all working fine according to tests.  However, when the ignition key is turned all the way round to start the car, which still doesn't start the glow plug light is flashing.  Any ideas?  Have been to try and get a manual for the car today but they don't do one! Surprise surprise!!!!!

Sorry if this sound obvious, but have you checked the battery?!  A trip of 75 miles should charge it up, but you said you left it for a few hours, any chance you left the lights on or something?

Hi Folks.

Just to update you on the situation with the fiat punto that wouldn't start.  After deliberating for a couple of days as to what to do, I contacted a Mobile Diagnostic Unit as all other mechanics and garages had basically scratched their heads over this one.  It turns out after linking the car to a diagnostic computer at a cost of 35 the car had three faults - the relay for the glow plugs had blown, the relay for the starter had blown and the synchronisation for the revs was all to ****.  In total the bill to get the car fixed amounted to 210 including the 35 call out charge, which I don't think is bad at all!!  In the opinion of the mechanics the car probably had a fault before I purchased it three months ago and that's why the previous owner had got shut.  Just out of curiosity I telephoned my local dealership to get a quote from them and was told the total bill including VAT would be 1,476!!!!!!  Not much difference from 210 is it?  The parts only came to 145 from the same dealership who wanted to charge me 465 for the parts!!  Amazing or what?

Thanks for all your help any way.
