Volvo Alarm Service

My neighbour has a 10 year old Volvo S60 Diesel and the dashboard message facility is showing the message "Alarm Service Due". Advice would be appreciated on the following questions:-
(a) What needs to be serviced on an alarm system
(b) How complex a job is it
(c) Would it HAVE to be done at a main dealership
(d) How expensive is it likely to be?

Nothing needs servicing on the alarm system !

You have got hold of the wrong end of the stick!

The car is telling you that the car is due it's schedule normal service

You don't need a main dealership for servicing, any vat registered garage can do it and it will be a lot cheaper

actually that message comes up on a few vehicles, as such there is no servicing of the alarm itself the chances are its fob batteries or back up battery.
Personaly i wouldnt lose any sleep over it, no one takes any notice of alarms anyway...as long as the imoboliser side of things works ok.

If it really means that the alarm needs looking at - it's usually a case of renewing the back-up battery in the alarm unit (the awkward bit may be finding the alarm unit itself).
Most handbooks give a 10-year life to these batteries.
