Roundabouts

Do you give way to the people on the roundabout on the right

Or

Give way to Cars approaching the roundabout on the right?

I believe the first is true, but appears that the second is in effect on the roads!

As I understand it vehicles already on the roundabout have priority over anyone approaching the thing from any direction.. By using common sense and allowing sufficient gaps for filtering to take place ( say, one to one) the traffic would be more inclined to keep moving at busy roundabouts. I agree with your last sentence.

This is what the Highway Code says, and again it is unhelpful on this point.  A roundabout is a junction, so many drivers either don't have the sense to slow down for a junction, or don't notice that the roundabout is there.

161: When reaching the roundabout you should

give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights
check whether road markings allow you to enter the roundabout without giving way. If so, proceed, but still look to the right before joining
watch out for vehicles already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all
look forward before moving off to make sure traffic in front has moved off.

I give way unless I can proceed without getting in the way, (works for me) there are a lot of people out there in too much hurry, and also a lot on mobile phones or doing other dangerous things. I do not want to be in or cause an accident.

Surely if youn treat your section of road/roundabout as a "T" junction, then you should give way to the right as normal, if you can safely pull out before the other vehicle reaches the roundabout then that must be the correct action!

Mini roundabotus totally mess up the whole roundabout system as most people forget how to use them and treat them like T juctions which is wrong.

Also at mini roundabouts there can easily be the situtaion when you either all wait at once or all go at once and it only takes a second of mis-judgement to happen.

Whatever happens they are both crap in heavy traffic....
