I'm downsizing my car, and am looking around at various sites, and seen several cars that have interested me - if the cars had been well looked after, and serviced regularly, does it matter having a high mileage? (100,000+). Ideally I'd prefer a lower mileage car, but don't have much money to play with at present. Also, does the road tax come down according to engine size?
Is it petrol or diesel that you have in mind, diesel cars tend to be able to carry a higher mileage easier ( as long as it's been serviced regularly ) and yes it does tend to work that way regarding road tax.
I can't answer the first part, but yes to the second part, but it's to do with emissions too - so it depends on a number of factors. It's all here https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables
Thank you for your replies - I haven't really made up my mind whether or not to go with petrol or diesel; I think that it's a case of seeing something I like and going with whatever it runs on. Thanks for the link about road tax, that's very useful.
One of the few things to bother me at that mileage is, has the cambelt and pulleys been changed?
If it hasn't, factor into your price upto £300 to have it done.
