How to talk to policemen ?

A girl I know very well, she's 22, driving a Citroen Saxo VTS at 93.7mph on the M-something, cousin in front passenger seat (22), sister in back (20), tailed and stopped by the police. Explained that she was late for a party, further explained that she was going to be even later now she'd been stopped (ouch!). Not having cottoned on to a sensitive interface with the police, she got �60 and points.

 

What should she have said, what is the best way to talk to the law if you get stopped doing the ton on the M25 ?

sounds like she did ok, she got a fixed penalty and 3 points. He wasn't going to let her go at 93 so I'd say she got the minimum punishment and didn't have to go to court.

Somebody else will say this if I don't...late for a party is never gonna cut it with a policeman.  On the way to casualty might have worked better but some of them won't buy anything, so how about don't speed?

I don't think there is anything your friend could have done either.  She was obviously stopped because she was driving the type of car that serial bottom fondlers at xmas office party's purchase and drive

Tell them you are the Chief of Police and that you were only speeding to try and catch another person who was speeding.

Failing that, tell them that your in fact an undercover copper and you'd just got this new fangled motor. You were merely following what appears to be police protocol and taking the car to its maximum speed so you can see how it handles.

More seriously though, tell them to get stuffed the money grabbing bunch of ........

Never grovel. I hate that. If they've stopped you chances are you not going to leave with a slap on the wrist. They will give you your punishment reguardless. Grin and bear it. If you can't do the time don't do the crime.

As the girl thought that the party was more important than other people's safety, it must have been tempting to forget the ticket and issue a summons.  The court would then have been able to consider a higher fine and disqualification.  The officers' restraint seems to be a credit to them.  It is not very likely that they were going to let her off with a warning at that speed, but she destroyed any chance as soon as she opened her mouth.  Next time she could try "Yes, I'm sorry, I didn't notice'.

(It was my daughter, a VTS will do about 130, and I value her life. Yes I did pay the fine for her. It's my car too ! I had a good laugh.  She sticks to 80 now thankfully)

Sorry sod but I don't see how you could laugh about your daughter doing nearly 94 mph. The fact that the car will (apparently) do 130 mph is irrelevant. Didn't know that the M25 now had an 80 mph speed limit.

The limit's only 80 if your dad's stupid enough to think that 3 members of his family risking not only their lives but those around them, is ok and should be punished by paying the fine on his daughter's behalf.

Remain polite, but not arse-licking. Do not irritate the police, they have a difficult job to do. Never say more than you have to.

Sticking within the speed limit might help as well.

Oh dear, people really take things over-seriously on here sometimes. I laughed because she got nicked, not because she was doing 94.I stated that the car will do 130, in parentheses, and as a fact in answer to the preceding post, it was not a recommendation. And I am eternally grateful she did get nicked - everyone needs a short sharp shock to make them settle down. As to 80, well that's what most people do, and is 'tolerated' by police (I'm not endorsing it, it's just a fact). And it wasn't the M25, but that's trivial. It was a very quiet m'way on a very quiet Bank Holiday evening, hardly another car on the road - so I assert that she was driving safely if illegally. And I paid her fine, that's what some Dads do, sorry about that, but she had to wriggle a bit first. I mean how soft can you get ? I insure her on my fully comprehensive policy in a VTS.  And we regularly 'swap' cars so she gets to pose around in a decent hot hatch. Soft touch, sorry folks, that's what some Dads do for daughters.

Well I'm sorry! What does your daughter have to do to get noticed properly by you? Murder? You seem to think that breaking the law is ok as long as you get off and someone else pays the fine. Squirming will get her out of a fine next time too I suppose?

As for your Chatterbank 'contribution'. Don't bother mate. Morph yourself (as you say you will) and we'll be delighted to annoy you there too.

2. Don't tell the cops anything they don't need to know.

3. Admit your wrong doings only when you are told by your lawyer.

4. Don't give the cops greive. ( you're on your way to a party and they're putting up eith you)

5. Drive at the speed limit and daddy won't have to come and identify you in the morgue.

How would you like if she died?
