When i was learning to drive, i remember my dad telling me" never presume what you don't know" ithink about it often and it's definitely helped me drive safely.
my19 year old has just got his first bike and I've passed it on.
Is there any advice you remember?

Always presume that the other drivers /riders will do something stupid, ie pull out on you at a crossroad, change lane to cut you up without indicating etc.
I remember one:

Don't just observe what the driver in front of you is doing, but watch the driver in front of them as well. Their actions will determine what the driver in front of you is going to do, so you're prepared and got that little bit of extra time to take any necessary evasive action if need be :)
Same as tony- trust nobody!
Never assume that an indicating driver is going to turn, until you see their wheels turn to start the manoeuvre.
good drivers are behind you, bad drivers are in front......
Always assume that every other driver on the road is a raving idiot & drive accordingly.

WR.
if in doubt = do now't.

As a biker of many years I thoroughly agree with the comments above. Also do not go too fast in the wet, especially around corners.
It makes me cringe, when, in the summer, I see bikers wearing a helmet, but then only a T shirt. Don't they realise what would happen to their skin if they came off??????
If you met yourself coming in the opposite direction would an accident occur?
Always be able to stop in the distance you can see to be clear.
Steer clear of Saabs......
Oi.
;-)
Always beware of Jags ;-)
I was taught to drive by an ex metropolitan police driving instructor. He told me, imagine a police car in front of you and one behind you and you won't go wrong. That was over forty years ago, seems to be working!
Further to The Winner's comments - I was told that our local CBT trainers produce a peach on training days, rub it on the road and point out that the same effect would be produced on skin.
It doesn't matter how long it takes to get there, as long as you get there in one piece.
I saw a motorcyclist who had been 'skinned' after spinning down the road once.
I can now draw a very realistic diagram of the testes.....
Valmave, just thinking about it, sounds painful.
