I've recently purchased above vehicle (paid cash) from dealer. Got 1 months warranty. On purchase I made deal that cambelt be replaced which was done Friday, that's all ok. However, I also pointed out that passenger door makes grinding noise when using central lock system from remote (doesn't happen when locking by using key in door) asked if they could resolve this, I have been told by dealer that its a minor problem though a big job to resolve as they hv take whole door apart but as it still locks with no problem they will not do this job. It can be locked by key with no noise. Just wondered where I stood here? In addition I've noticed in the last week, where I've been on longer journey, that there is a whistle noise when I accelerate which goes once I change up gear and it sort of holds back a little as though it tries catch up. Was told by dealer this is normal as its a turbo, big vehicle small engine! I'm not normally a complainer and feel I don't want be a trouble customer but need advice from someone who knows about this model vehicle and they have just paid out to have cambelt replaced for me. As I paid cash 3wks ago, now I'm running out of warranty soon. There is no error or mantenance signs coming up on dashboard so doesn't show any problems. Is this normal? It's not new..done just over 80,000 miles and 5-6 yrs old. Anyone advice please. Thankyou.

I would not worry about the noise when the door locks it does not affect the car in any way. You have to remember a 6 year old car is going to have a few minor niggles , you can't expect it to be perfect. Taking the whole door apart is going to cost £100s and you can't expect them to do that just to stop a minor noise that does not affect anything else.
what you basically have is an engine that really isn't big enough for the car so it has a turbo to assist, problem is that it's a big turbo and that takes time to get up to speed, as Eddie says it's known as turbo lag. For this reason many cars have a twin turbo, a small one and a big one, so the small one gets going straightaway and then the big one chimes in later so any lag is less noticable.
The whine is normal with a turbo though if it gets too loud it's a sign that the bearings are on the way out.

I've just bought a car from Nissan dealer with 'higher than average' mileage and after 2 weeks I noticed the "whistling" on accelerating and the reluctance to accelerate quickly, but then drop back, then boost forward again. Dealership say the noise is "just normal", but the stuttered accelaration is the EGR valve is sticking and they are replacing it (got warranty with it).
What concerns me is that a lot of people have commented about the whistling thing and most seem to think it the turbo/DPF or manifold on way out... so I will have to come back on Thursday and let you know how the car is after egr gets replaced..
