When I turn on the nearside indicator in my transit it flashes normally but then starts to flash quicker and then reverts to flashing at the normal speed - I checked the bulb and that was ok then tonight sitting at traffic lights I realised that it only speeds up when I have my foot on the brake pedal! Why would this be? Its due for MOT in a couple of weeks and although they would not notice it when checking if the van is stationary I would like to get it sorted.

But why would it only be when I put my foot on the brake? When you release the brake it returns to normal flashing.

Methyl has got it. When the indicator flashes quickly, it's "indicating" (pun intended) that one or more of the bulbs isn't flashing, or not flashing correctly. When you press the brake pedal and the indicator starts flashing quickly, this is telling us that there's a bad earth that needs locating and sorting.

Thanks will get it checked out. The van does let in water in several places so no doubt that's the problem.
