Due to a change in health and financial circumstances, I no longer need my car,.so wish to sell it as quickly as possible . I have never sold a car before and don't know the best way to.go.about it, how much to.ask.for it etc. It has MOT and is taxed, but does require some work (advised at last MOT).which I cannot afford to get done myself. I will,.of course declare this to.any interested party. i have no-one to help or advise. Please advise. Thank you :)

Check your local paper small ads which will have a 'used car' section - usually grouped under makes and models - and you can get a ball park figure for a car the age and model of yours.

You can, if you wish to save any other, drive it into the nearest second hand dealer and ask them to take it off your hands. They will assess it and offer you a price, which you can take, or decline, and try elsewhere.

It comes down to how quickly you want to get rid of your car - the quickest route is the dealer, but may not get you as good a good price as you could get if you sold it yourself.

Hope this assists.
Daily Telegraph have recommended Sure Sell, just google them. But avoid We buy any car, not heard anything good about them.
Bee, in the first instance, if you tell us the make, model, year, mileage and engine type (petrol or diesel) and size (1.1 litre / 1.4 litre etc) we will tell you what it is worth.
You could do this yourself if you want by looking at the Autotrader website for matching cars for sale. The cars on there might be advertised at around £250 more than their worth. This will then enable you to know what price you want. Don't be tempted to take any less!
You could then try to sell your car on Autotrader (there is a small charge) or simply stick it on your drive / outside your house with a For Sale notice.
Rule number one is DO NOT TAKE A CHEQUE for the car unless the buyer is prepared to wait until the money is in your account. Cash, or a bankers draft are much safer.

Bee, You will have seen the Ad, "We rip off any car owner.com" don't go anywhere near the robbing sods, they will rip you off, as said compaire with Ebay, Auto Trader, Gum Tree, Preloved sites for an Idea, do you know anyone in the Garage Trade? where you had you car MOT, ask them can the help.History will help the sale, a clean car will also help, Which ever way you choose be very very carefull! there are a lot of con artists out there, put a sign in the windows of the car, A sign that will stand out, coloured paper etc, If you have a customer make sure you have someone with you, if they want a test drive make sure they have insurance and go with them on the drive, never hand over the V5 on a "cheque sale" wait for the cheque to clear and state that on the deal, sell the car "Tried Tested & Approved" No Warrantee, If there are faults, tell the byer

Thank you for your advice :)
Bee, looking thru auto trader, it's worth £800 (on a bad day) to £1000 ( on a very good day. There's no reason whatsoever to highlight the MOT issues. Let the buyer ask to see your certificate which has all the advisory notes on it. Caveat emptor.

TThank you. The car passed MOT with the engine management light showing. it is not the warning symbol for immediate attention according to the manual .
10 day auction on Ebay, list your number and state "for sale elsewhere so may be withdrawn at any time", there's a good chance someone will callyou and buy it before the auction ends then it will cost only a tenner. If it does run it's course , you'll get what it's worth and it wil sell, no pi55ing about with small ads. Simples!
