i have a 1992 K reg Ford Sierra Turbo Diesel 1800cc


have put new timing and fuel pump belts also a secondhand fuel pump which came from a mondeo


as it was the same as the sierra pump....problem is now and again the engine will rev up on its own to about 2000revs for about 10 to 15 seconds....


can you help

either air in the fuel supply, or the replacement pump is very tired. www.fordmondeo.org  or www.ilexa.co.uk both have excellent forums where this sort of thing has bound to have been discussed.
First of all, if the pump was tired or there was air in the fuel line, especially on a diesel engine then the car would struggle to run or may not even start. As you have recently renewed the timing belt and fuel pump belt you could refer to the vehicle manual and make sure they have been set up correctly. If this doesn't help then i would advise approaching a Ford garage or similar specialist.

fyi, the above mentioned syptoms do NOT always prevent an engine from running/starting...
try replacing your potentiometer as this makes your idle speed eratic
