I have a Y reg Golf Mk4 GTI and the rear brake lights (inc the 3rd high level one) don't come on when I press the pedal. I have checked all the related fuses which seem fine. I don't think its the bulbs as the high level light would still work, but it doesn't. Does anyone know where the switch that triggers the light is situated or know what the problem could be.

The switch is mounted on, or near, the brake pedal.  Quite often the switch mounting can move are break.
