Length Of Time For A Service

My Audi dealer has my car tomorrow for an oil service and change of brake fluid. The garage gave me 9 30 as a slot for leaving the car off. The mechanic phoned today to confirm arrangements and stated 4 30 as the earliest the car would be ready. What is a reasonable duration for such work? I'm not seeking at this point to dispute the labour costs...they are probably set anyway. I'm annoyed by the length of time I have to do without the car for what seems to me to be relatively straightforward activity.

Many garages like to take cars in at the beginning of the day and return them at the end, it allows them to slot jobs in to suit their schedule.

Did you garage not offer a collection service or a courtesy car.....or a timed slot where you could have waited?

How long is a piece of string, it depends what the find in the process, Oil Brake Fluid, 3hrs depending if the system can be Bled easy, some can be a right pain, at the most 5 hrs. but there are garages & there are Garages.

Thats the normal reply. My guess is that The duration of work is about three to four hours . (Depends which type of service really)I am asked when booking my car in if I need a courtesy car , suggest next time you ask for a courtesy car, you will have to book in earlier though as they only have so many cars available, surprised they did not ask when you booked in . I get asked, courtesy car, car to be picked up or lift to local train station.

They are probably being cautious in case that wally mechanic rings in sick again, and they have problems with other cars they are working on.

I dread to think what a main dealer will charge you if they take 3-5 hours to change your oils.

Some main dealers will service overnight to cause minimum inconvinience

Dodger, some charge a min of £70>>£90 P/H/ that is some dealers costs, It amazes me when person's on here go to the dealers when you can get it done & your service book stamped at a local private non rip off garage! some folk are made of money.

I was aware of that TWR, that's why I dreaded what they would charge the OP just to change the oils if it took 3-5 hours as suggested.

I'm more inclined to agree with Tonyv as to the time taken.
