These young people that Died in Doncaster last week, although not confirmed I would think speed has a lot to do with it! why can't the law make it legal for the young owners under 25 have their cars restricted to a set speed, a speed retarder that is "Sealed" on the fuel system of the car, It is done with HGVs & it can be done with cars, what do you think?

It seems to have been a combination of speed and weather conditions.
And when they're driving a parent's car?

I'm not sure why you think your speculation is needed TWR. Leave it to the crash investigator.

A speed restrictor would be no good for limiting speeds in 30/40 mph zones.

I am talking about their own car, although I did not say that, please continue.
Most, but not all, HGVs are mechanically/electrically restricted to 57mph = 90Kph. It doesn't stop them breaking speed limits.

HGVs are Restricted to 56mph Piper. On A>>B Roads, either 50 mph, or 40 MPH, you may think the driver is been awkward by travelling on some roads at that speed, He / She is not, they are keeping within the law & looking after his / her living! "Their Licence"

BHG, Not picking on straws ;like some on here, it's 56 MPH, But that does not stop the Driver doing above the UK Legal limit off the Motorways.
it sounds a good idea but what happens when "mummy & daddy" lend them their cars. and as most cars are bought second hand how will you police it. the only way i can see this working is if a law was passed saying that from 17 to25 if you want to drive you can only drive this particular car. Also i know someone aged 57 who passed his test a few months ago, he's not the best driver, it should be a certain power whatever age.

When we hired a car in Ireland that was restricted.
They will never impose the electronic or mechanical speed restrictions of cars because rich people own them.

The only gestures made towards attempting to reduce accidents by young motorists is to make it increasingly more expensive to own and run a car. Making it more exclusive for affluent people.
What about the box that young drivers can install which logs everything they do?
The black box is a far better idea, ummmm
Don't they log even how often you use your brakes?

I'd quite happily install one in my car.
Should the insurance companies not be doing something about this problem .They are making billions out of high insurance for the under 25 driver, where is all that money going .Any car driven by a young person should be limited in speed .Just as the R is for that particular car no matter who 's driving it .Some sort of cut out in the engine or a graph which would show speed s that particular car was driven at which has to be checked weekly .Oh for got cutbacks on governmental departments so that wont happen
I should imagine if you drove into a tree at only 30 or 40 mph without any seatbelts on you could still kill yourself or your passengers.

So it is not all about speed.

In my area a few weeks ago we had a father who worked for a car company who was lent a brand new Range Rover for the weekend (worth nearly £100,000).

The 19 year old son got hold of the keys (there is some debate if he "stole" them or the father lent them to him).

The son went driving round the local streets (uninsured) and ploughed into a car, killing the male driver and seriously injuring the 10 year old child in the car.

How do you stop that?

Piper, were they going "Down hill"? The recorded Chart, (The Taco Chart) or the New Card that fits into the Taco of a HGV ( Speedometer) Records everything that the HGV does whilst Travelling, Stopping , the charts / card are checked on a Monthly Basis, or if the Taco has a Fault, the Tacko has to be Calibrated by an approved HGV Testing Station, when does the System is recorded by Law, If a HGV Driver commits an offence of speeding Today, that will be recorded within the Taco, if the speed Continues the driver can get Fined & can get his / her HGV Licence revoked by the DVLA, Thus, the loss of the Drivers Living, as I have said people may think that the HGV Driver is taking the PIZZZ by holding many cars up that's following them but they are not, that Driver may have a family, Hose to pay for, car to pay for, so they are not going to risk that are they? When I wad driving the things, if the road WELL AHEAD WAS CLEAER, I used to Indicate to my left to tell the car driver following it was safe to pass, but there are drivers & there are drivers, I will let you think about that last statement!
