Is it possible to transfer my car insurance to cover a campervan for only a few weeks per year, keeping the car on TPFT and transferring the Comprehensive to the camper?

Phone up your insurance company and find out.
No. The TPFT will only apply to a car not owned by you. So you can't insure one vehicle fully comp and then drive the other third party if you own them both.

Thanks for that fountain.  What I meant was to have the car "laid up" in the garage while I was using the camper van, but still to have it covered by insurance mainly against fire and theft.
As far as I know you must have a separate policy for each vehicle. However, some companies might allow you to upgrade/downgrade between fully comp and TPFT for short periods of time.
