I've been having my car valeted for a while now and have only just realised that this is what's causing the poor visibility. They squirt wax all over the windscreen as well as the bodywork.
I've read all kinds on Google and have tried a few, have any of you actually found something that works ?
I've tried washing up liquid.
Vinegar.
Something in a yellow bottle from the internet (forgot the name).

It's a heated windscreen if that makes any difference.

I'm wondering if nail-polish remover would work because of the acetone content.
Have you tried WD-40 ? It might liquefy the wax for easier removal.
But then maybe it would harm the sealant around your windshield...I don't know.
pour vinegar onto newspaper to clean the windscreen, and then buff clean and dry with dry newspaper.
Someone asked a Q similar to this a few weeks ago Arwyn, for a start they should not be using wax on the Front Screen, use a Stanley Blade " Not the pointed end as some might have thought!!) Put some fairy on the screen and use the Cutting edge of the blade to wipe off, each time use put the fluid on the Glass / wipe off, Valeter.
Also, perhaps go to a different valet service:)
I do a lot of valets Weather Permitting over here Stuey, never have I used Wax on the Front Screen, It stands to common it's going to impair your vision when it rains.
A small amount of white spirit on a cloth to clean the windscreen. Then a clean up with shower screen cleaner on another cloth, with a final buff up with a microfibre duster.

Then tell your cheapskate valeter to use some decent windscreen cleaner.
Yes, TWR: it just doesn't make any sense to wax the windshield: "Excuse me, I have to peer through that in order to see where I'm aiming the car!"

Thank guys and girls, a few things there to try. Oh I won't be going back there I know that for sure. Now I know why it was so cheap lol.
I'll try them in daylight and report back which one works.
Meths should do the trick.
Good one, melv16: I think that I'd be inclined to try that one first. (methyl hydrate) But I think I'd keep it away from the sealant.

I'll try the meths first as that and turps are things I've not yet tried. It's become a nightmare to drive in the dark and wet.
Thanks everyone x
I use slick mist by Lucas (US) to shine up the car and the rep asked if I ever use it on the screen. It works well in the rain and stops all the blade squeaks/judders.
My pet hate is grease on windscreens. After trying many ideas and purchasing many branded goods over many years I still have not found one that works. HOWEVER I Am very please to inform you that I have found a cure which is 100 per cent effective and also last for a very long time. The cure is to purchase Jewellers Rouge (got mine off e bay) put a small bit on a wet rag and gently go over the scree, then rinse off. Two things to remember one, dont rub too hard and two
rinse off properly, this tip came to me from a friend who worked in the glass industry, they use it to get small scratches and grease off glass on high end products.
Do not use washing up liquid, It contains about 50% salt(used to thicken the liquid) and will find it's way into seams and cause rust you can't see till it's too late.
Have you tried a domestic steam cleaner. As a young man I worked as a temporary job in the auto trade. I had to remove all the wax off newly delivered models to the showroom. We used a paraffin fired steam cleaner. Did the trick no problem and that delivery wax was really thick all over the car. Didn't affect the glass or HRW.
Use one of those wash up sponges with the Scotchbright backing. Use hand washing(toilet) soap on it. I've removed all sorts of grease and oil from windows and it then just washes off with your normal window cleaner.
