Is there a shortage of colour pigments in the motor industry? The reason I ask is that most new cars are only typically available in one colour or white, silver, grey, titanium, black, etc. i.e. shades rather than colours?

Most people buy a car with the intention of keeping it for 2-3 years and then replacing it. You've got to bear in mind that a girlie-colour car will restrict the sale to half the population, possibly even less.
I like the first one :-). That is a good colour!
I don't buy cars with view to reselling them.
I don't buy cars with a view to reselling them either, Pixie but most people do, so the colour is important to them.
It is to me and I don't think most people do. They buy the car they want themselves.
I'm the same. I buy a car and drive it until it dies a natural death. A car is not a status symbol for me, it just serves a purpose.
Colour is quite important to me when buying a car, in fact high up my wish list. Would never go for green (apparently unlucky) and all the mid metallic beiges and silvers etc are just plain boring. My last 3 cars have been black by choice.
I fanticise about those cars, Aston especially but in reallity I drive bangers because the state of our roads, thieving scrotes and all the other negatives about driving would make me fearful of having anything really nice.

One of my colleagues has a Subaru, it's been souped up into something very special but he has to park it away from everyone else incase some onescratches it, he polishes it on his breaks...it's just sad...
My son has just bought a new Ford and the reason a lot go for the few colours mentioned is the fact that if you want something different they charge. He had to pay over £500 to get the colour he wanted.
There are a few cars about that look like they forgot to spray on the final coat.

What The Funicular?
The flat matt look is very much in at the minute!! I think it's horrid!!
isn't that vinyl? Hideous unless you have a fetish for that feel.
^^ Yes we have a motability car but any colour other than black, white or grey was £500 extra.
That is horrible, Talbot. At least you can customise it yourself I suppose.
What colours are your cars? our cars, Blue / Black / Silver.
A very subtle silvery blue
Silver with a hint of bronze.
Eddies1 - Motability cars are not liable for the £500 extra for metallic paint. Challenge your dealer if they try and charge you for the colour you want next time.

Although I agree that there is precious little choice at the moment, I tend to choose the car I want and pick the least boring colour being offered.
^^ There is an advance payment, this was £35 for the black I had but red or blue was £500 advance payment.
i have to drive on mainly "b"roads and winding country lanes at night,I'm gob smacked at how many cars are on the road with one headlight and some not even a sidelight on the offending side,i counted 8 one night last week in a 20 mile drive
