In an advanced test you are expected to check fluid levels and tyres (visually), and do a rolling brake check before setting off.
That is in addition to the usual seat and mirror checks. With respect TWR, checking these things is more to do with the mechanical safety aspect, not the driving.
I think that anticipation, all-round awareness/observation, patience,concentration, a non-aggressive attitude, 'give and take', driving according to the prevailing surface and weather conditions and a mastery of the controls are all essential requirements of a 'good' driver. And even a 'good' driver makes mistakes.
