I have a 51 plate mini that has had yhe abs and handbrake lights on recently, I took it to BMW who used their diagnostic tester to reveal the problem was a faulty asc unit, they quoted over £1100 to replace it too!

Is there anything else I can do, or anywhere else that you can recommend I try. The car otherwise is in good condition so it would be a shame to lose it. Surely there are people who can repair or replace something like this, any ideas??

Have a look for a local German car or BMW specialist.
Wed, to start with, go to a dealer as you have found out will cost you far more than a local family run garage, what part of the UK are you? there are many Ex BMW Mechanics that have started up on their own & can cut the cost to a 1/4 of the Dealers, just GOOGLE Private BMW Fitters, to add you do not need a Dealer to fit this Unit.
Buy one yourself and go to another reputable but sensiblly priced dealer to get it fitted . BMW are a complete shower, they's charge you gawd knows what per hour an dput a YTS guy on it who's earning a shilling a week. I have a beamer and I use a local specialists who are about a third of the price of the BMW mob, BMW dealerships take the absolute p15s.
