there is no such thing as road tax. Vehicle excise duty is not related to milage, I'm struggling to decipher your meaning here.

TTT, he means that he has divided his mileage by the cost of his annual road tax and it works out that it costs him 9p for every mile he drives.

That is low mileage. Add that to cost of Insurance, Servicing etc and it would be cheaper to go by taxi.

Yes hc, what is road tax? VED is the cost of having the right to use your vehicle on public roads. Subsequent usage thereof is not compulsory. So "fair" or not does not come into it. It's like saying I pay £25k a year in NI and I also pay for prescriptions and I've been to hospital twice in 12 years, fair? I would not ask the question normally because I know the 2 things are not related.

do away with the tax and add tax to the fuel , this would mean the ones who use the roads most would pay more, if your car was fuel efficient you would pay for miles travelled and if it was a gas guzzler you would pay more

£225 a year; that's a car that drinks petrol (or diesel) at less than 28MPG or is old.

sorry ttt, you no longer pay for using your car on the road but for owning it,cars must be taxed if in the drive or on the road

woolleysheep, if you are not using your car at all and it is on private land it does not need to be taxed. It can be SORN'd at no cost.
