Of course, there is no requirement for a driving instructor to be involved at all. You can turn up in any car with your accompanying driver, as long as you are legal no problem.
I think once I get my car repaired and get back learning I'll be doing it in my car. I feel more comfortable in my car and more at ease too. Thank You TTT and everybody else too :)
Be warned though there are theories of an Inhenerent prejudice against drivers who choose not to use the traditional instructor route to a licence. I have no knowledge of how true this is but I have heard that examiners feel more comfortable about passing someone if it is clear that they have been trained by a proper instructor, and turning up in one of their liveried up vehicles does tick that box. However on the other side a mate of mine passed many years ago with no lessons and in his own car with a double de clutch gear box!
Some models of vehicle can’t be used for the test. This is because they don’t give the examiner all-round vision. They are generally convertible cars and panel vans.
You can’t use these cars for a driving test:
BMW Mini convertible
Ford KA convertible
Toyota iQ
VW Beetle convertible
Other types of convertible car or panel van may also be unsuitable.
Thank you Excel - since I last had a lesson my instructor has got a new car. I feel a lot more comfy and familiar in mine - even if I haven't been able to use it recently.
I've had plenty of proper training - thankfully but financially just now I couldn't justify booking the test, a lesson and the use of their car.
Phew I've got a Citroen C2 so I should be ok there Hopkirk :)
