Putting Your Own Cones Out......

In a street near me, I regularly drive down I see a house that puts cones like these out: http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/no-parking-cones-2748458.jpg i.e. like the police ones bu without the word "police" - Now I know they have no legal standing etc etc but is it in fact illegal to put out cones displaying a restricted parking sign ie extending the law for their own usage? Is it legal to put any cones out or any device to prevent parking on the public highway?

So why are people on here basically laughing at people putting out a cone? I'm assuming they don't have problems with parking or else it would be a different story.

My neighbour died....the house had to be emptied by taking his belongings a good way down the street. Poor show, not amusing in he slightest, in fact quite upsetting.

That is why 'some' people use a cone...think on.

I take my chance in other circumstances with parking...well aware it's dog eat dog.

The dropped kerb we paid for was to 'service' 5 houses and it shouldn't be outwith the remit of courtesy for people to actually consider the people who actually live in the street they use all day every day as a car park.

I'd do the same but i'd engage brain and realise that those people have the same needs as myself and show consideration ....it's only one space after all.

Thanks though for appreciating the other side of the coin.

If you want to clear a house or allow space for a funeral, you go to the council and get a suspension or waiver

Not sure in this post if the road in question has unrestricted parking apart from the unlawful cones restricting a motorist.

we are not talking about dropped kerbs or funerals. these people just have a thing about parking outside their own house. I see their cones all the time.

Can you not see why they would want to park outside their own house?

I know we all pay road tax etc etc but surely you must realise that for every thing you do with your car...washing, emptying shopping, repairs...those people have to do the same?

We have free car parks in our town, streets which have warehouses where parking wouldn't restrict anyone but people won't walk the length of themselves.

Weekends are worse...we had big work vans parked up directly outside our livingroom windows for the duration, they park their own cars here to pick up and drop off the van and then b***er off home so they don't have the van at their own houses !!(that's been dealt with).

We also get the motorhomes, out of storage, same deal, park up here and then take it away for a day or so, parked up the entire summer.

No consideration.

You are quite right as it happens but I was afeared toention that as I will be subject to abuse if I said that.any vehicle that is stationary on a road is technically causing an obstruction irrespective if there are no parking regulations. There is NO entitlement to park on a public road as such.
Sec121 highways Act covered this years ago but has probaby been amended since. Gets that I become reluctant to post an answer in case it is not what is wanted to be heard.

Kyle, I have given answer to TTT Q, I do not condone it, I would not report them unless they were obstructing my drive, the drive I made, by the money I have earned, & not to be blocked in by any other person cars, I do not use Cones. I would not, have not, will not Obstruct any other persons drive.

Blimey..I didn't realise that ! So glad you have clarified that, to us dullards, in your usual subtle manner murraymints.

I was only putting forward the view of people like me, an opposing view perhaps, in the vain attempt of highlighting the problems faced by us other road tax payers have as opposed to people who don't have the same problem with having their own off street parking.

I can speak from experience when I say that under the Highways Act it is an offence to UNLAWFULLY place on the road any article or object whereby other users of the road are injured or endangered. Numerous items like skips, roadworks signs etc are there with lawfully, and their presence is approved by the Local Authority In you case it is illegal but just how many people in the country do likewise like contrators with barrels and ladders. A great deal of discretion is used in such cases.
