my wife has a old paper type driving licence that expires Oct 2019.But I was told in the pub last night that it should have been changed years ago for the photo card type. Does anyone know if this true please?
No it is not true. I (unfortunately) had to present my old paper type licence at the police station to have 3 penalty points added (speeding). I mentioned that perhaps it was time to get the new plastic type and was told not to bother. Time enough when the paper one ran out. If I did it now I would be charged, but would get a new one free on expiry of the old.
I changed my licence a few weeks ago, now you don't even have a paper counterpart. You are now required to destroy your old licence when you apply for your new one.
Thank you RATTER15. I also did say it had changed woofgang. Old rules are not rules. Your not knowing will not appease plod or the DVLA. Another thing anyone who is approaching the age where their licence is due to expire would do well to get the photo type it will make it much less complicated and stressful when the time comes. I am currently doing just that for 'she who must be obeyed
