washer jets

hi,

I fitted pritty new washer jets on my car and they work fine. thay have a led on them :) i know i cant use them on road (off road only) but does anyone know where the wireing goes?

the instructions are not verry good, i know thay go in my side lights. i dont know if its the buld side or the other side. the washers have a red and black wire so do the side lights but the wireing is too short to get out the car to have a good look at.

simply connect the red to the red and black to black, this will put them on whenever your lights are on, i have seen hundreds of cars with these on so i doubt you will get any bother from the plod - but if you are concerned, why not wire them (in the same manner) to your washer pump (located on the plastic tub where the water goes) then they will only light up when you activate your screen washer.

so im going to  put the red to the red ect on the only red and black wires i have. thay lead into the side lightbulb. ill let u know how i got on tomorrow as if lost the light to do it now.

the cables dont reach to the side light lol. so i have a few options

1 connect the washers to something elce

2 extend the cable (when i work out what sort to buy)

3 not bother connecting then at all (but i wanna stamps feet)

my car is a 9year old rover metro tho its in relly good condition for his age.

i dont whant them on the pump, is there any were elce i could put them somewere easy. this is my first car lol id never seen a car engin b4!

Hiya ! - No need to stamp your feet ! its probably best to stick with the side lights as you said.

The easiest way to extend the cables is to use 'snap-lock' connectors, they dont require soldering, crimping or anything like that - you just put the two wires you want to join into the block and close it. It even cuts through the insulation on the wire for you !.

I have had a look and theres a pack of twenty on ebay for �1:60 - just type 'snap lock connector' in the search bar, or try halfords / motor world, they should have them, they will also be able to supply you with the cable to extend with, considering the low current drawn by LED's, you will be able to just buy a small roll of speaker wire.

Once you look at the 'snap-locks', it will be pretty much self explanitory how you connect them, just remember to extend the cables seperately as opposed to joining red to black - lol.

ps, i forgot to say, the connectors are usually colour coded for different sizes of cable, so you will need red ones, (these are for 0.5 to 1.5 mm wire).

ahh i see ur point about the connecters i have connecters and cable in the post just now on there way here. im guessing i can use the speaker wire for both red and black. thanks for the help ill let you know how i get on with the tiems arive :)

hey am blushin now ! - what type of speaker cable did you buy ? its normally two wires joined side by side anyway (one with a stipe or different colour) so it should be a doddle.

 its the 2 together with a black stripe on one side. but its fine the car died! the cluch or gear box has gone :(

well, im so angery! the rac man said he had a friend that would do my cluch for cheep. so he told me he could not fix it. chardged me �35 and left the battery and starter moter in the boot so my alarm and imobaliser are not working. now i have to pay to get the car towd somewhere elce for a second opinion! i cant beleave that stupid man butcherd my car!! my poor we car! just as a matter of letting you know ill post what happens when i get the second opioion on friday.

ps he allso chiped the bonnet twice and broke a gril.

what a bloody cowboy ! - if i were you i'd kick up a stink about it, threaten him with tradin standards/ fair trades or even court. (was talkin to a guy today who did just that and won). aaw i wish i could sort the car out for ya - i bought a lovely rover 220 coupe off ebay on sunday, its nice but i need to strip an rebuild the cylinder head (i knew that when i bought it like) had to get it from coventry to liverpool runnin on two cylinders - well dodgy !! all good fun though, good luck

right, rac would not do anything. I got My girlfriends uncal to toe my car to his friend who fixed my canr for �185 that was doing the clutch and the starter moter.

and then today he fited the LED's for me and i got my new number plate holders and new plates on. the thing is we used my head lights to see coz it was getting dark and drained the battery lol. so now i need to fine the best way to charge it.

my altinater has gone arg!!! this is getting worce. Is that a hard repair/expencive?

as if things could not get worce... the bolt that holds the bettery on to the cradle has rusted so i cant get my battery out the car to charge and the charger has to be pluged in to a wall socket. i think my best bet is going to be to puch the car to my window and charge it though that.

Hi again, glad you got your clutch and starter sorted anyway, �185 is ok too (is that all in with parts ?).

I replaced an alternator on a fiesta recently, it only cost me �15 for a used one from the breakers and took about 45 mins - dont worry its relatively easy !.

As for the rusted bolt, that would be quite easy to sort out too, firstly get a spanner and tighten it (yes tighten !) until it snaps, then you can get another battery cradle or just the bolt if possible - again from the breakers for a couple of quid.

ps, you will need to get the alternator sorted before you bother with the battery, as it will only go flat again otherwise.

ty, i charged the battery to get the car to a man that could fix the altinator. i got the car back at last everything working. lol the washers are connected and look great thanks for all ur help. im now looking for more things to make my car look a little better. we just reapainted all the scratched bits :)
