Legal Protection On Car Insurance

I normally take this as an add-on. It costs £27ish. I notice there are firms on the net who do it for £6. what do you get for legal protection insurance? Is it simply to cover uninsured losses? What is an uninsured loss likely to be that makes it worthwhile to insure against?

thanks guys. I have joined freemotorlegal. I was looking at the £5 version but it seems it can be done for free. I am surprised I did not know about this. If everyone joined would they be able to cope with 25million customers? Perhaps the insurance companies would follow suit.
