After a period of having problems starting my car I got
a new battery.
Very relieved that my trouble was over I went out to the car the
next day only to find I couldn't open the driver door.

Did the fitting of a new battery affect the set-up & what can I do?

If you mean the remote opening, Mampara, I think there's a 'learning' procedure for when the battery in the key is changed, it may be the same for the car battery. The two don't recognise each other until this is gone through.

Thanks for the link Buenchico which is very informative.
I doubt there's a need for a new fob. Try the instructions from Buenchico's link. Instructions on opening your key to replace the batteries are in your vehicle handbook.
