Removing Glue From Car Paint

My son has a car where the previous owner has spilt glue onto the bodywork where they tried to fix a boot badge. Is there a way of trying to remove this without affecting the paintwork of the car? Thanks

First try some good old WD40

Tar and glue remover, not the spray on rubbish they sell in accessory shops but something like Tardis, available on Amazon by the litre.

Maybe try some white spirit to loosen it, or better still take badge of and clean hole area then re fix

It really depends on what type of glue it is...the above are good ideas but probably not if glue is "superglue" or epoxy (Araldite) type.

If it's Superglue use nail polish remover ( so long as it contains acetone).

^^^I really wouldn't use propanone (aka acetone) anywhere near car paintwork....

A very sharp razor blade might lift it off.

Don't use acetone or nail polish remover as they are solvents for car paint.

Rubber solution type glues are softened by petrol
Araldite (epoxy) can be softened by very careful heating
Superglue (isocyanate)will gradually break down in the prescence of water, so leave it outside.

Try Hopkirks razor then clean it up with petrol if it works.

Mainly water based paint used these days.

That does not mean that they are not soluble in other solvents.. they don't wash away in the rain.

Polyclense Brush cleaner (not Polystrippa) will move most glues, and road tar. It is water soluble and does not cause skin problems. When I was working we used a lot of different adhesives and I never found one that it wouldn't remove. And it does not affect car paints and you just wash it off with water.
