Run Flat Tyres

Can they be fitted to any wheel [subject to the correct size tyre being available] and can they be repaired in the normal way in the case of a puncture? I ask because more and more cars are being supplied with just a puncture repair kit and no option of a spare/spacesaver wheel.

We've got run flats on our car, they are a fluffin nightmare! I know they're a lot safer than normal tyres but they get on my wick. AFAIK they shouldn't be repaired but newer ones might be able to, you'd have to ask the individual manufacturers.

It looks about 50 / 50 between the various makes if repair is possible or not.

Because if you had a bad puncture and needed a new tyre, you wouldn't want to be in a small town. No spare in the back to rely on.

We have them on the Beemer, no problem so far but if we have a puncture and drive home on (a flat) one I would not want it repaired whether it was 5 miles or 50 miles.

Run flats will give a stiffer ride due to the sidewall construction.A few years back we had a 530GT with run flats and BMW have 'almost' admitted that a minor impact with a small pothole could result in a cracked alloy..and a £600 bill.Manta..sit in a dark room until the thoughts of downgrading to run flats goes away.
