An Appeal To Cyclists.

With the onset of dark evenings I am appealing to cyclists to wear bright safety clothing and have bright rear and front lights - preferably the very good flashing/ strobe ones.

Now there are many more vehicles on the road the amount of light from headlights in busy areas seems to create pools of dark shadow where dark-clad, poorly lit cyclists can be difficult to spot. To add to the problem very few motorists keep the inside of the windscreen clean and this decreases visibilty. Think Bike.

Be safe everyone , especially at this festive time.

Cycle path/psychopath. What's in a name?
My appeal to cyclists,,,,, get off the pavements . !!!!!!!!
You can get fined for riding on the pavement; you can get the death sentence for riding on the road.
Better still, leave the dangerous contraption at home in the garage and not risk your life on the roads. Think sense.
As an articulated lorry driver I am quite happy to share the road with cyclists. However I wish I could invite some of them into my cab to appreciate how hard it is to spot one in my rain soaked mirrors if they are clad in black Lycra - even if they have basic lighting.

Give me a chance to see you, please cyclists.
Hop, do your Electric mirrors not work?
Ooooo....I could go off you OG.....☺......I love my bike......and if a motorist can't see me in my fluorescent pink bling and the Christmas lights on my bike they should be leaving their dangerous contraption in the garage......☺
Yes TWR but in this weather it dries leaving so much crud that you see even less. That is despite my regime of polishing them when I can.

No No No! In many countries, a portion of the pavement (usually marked out in red) is apportioned to cyclists, but they need to cycle with courtesy for pedestrians. There are very few pedestrian/cyclist accidents compared with vehicle/cyclist ones.
You may have seen this done Hoppy, Tie a piece of rag about a foot in lenght on your mirror arm in the middle, the forward movement let's the rag swirl this in turn cleans your mirror, do not do this in Winter as the ice on the rag will crack the mirror, Yes, it does do the job, old truckers tip. lol

I think the OP was referring to the UK where the two-wheeled terrorists mostly run amok and do just as they like.
Khan, I not anti Cycle by any means but I think some of them should be booked for the way the conduct their steering, I have mentioned a few times of near misses, It's easy for the Bike brigade to call the motorist's & I agree in some cases, if they use the road they should abide by the rules, I was in Skipton this Weekend, the light were in my faviour, this clown came through from my right on RED, I should have reported the idiot, that's only one case.
TWR, that may be unusual in Skipton, but. It's normal in London.
My appeal to cyclists - don't sneak up on my nearside when I'm queuing in traffic leaving about 2 inches clearance
The OP is actually about night visibility, but if you all want to give anecdotes about stupid cyclists, we can also all give as many about stupid motorists I'm sure.

Not on a cycling post surely, if you want that why not start your own thread?
As you come into the Town Hop, take the old road to Keighley, over the Bridge, the one near Tesco, I was coming out of the street on your left, this crank was going straight ahead.
Baldric; I have personally known three cyclists killed by motorists, and as an ex-club and racing cyclist, many more injured, and yet I have never known a pedestrian who was injured by a cyclist (that isn't to say it hasn't happened).
