My wife has a 65 registered car and would like to transfer the plate when she changes to a brand new vehicle next year to say a 68 reg model and so on ad finitum.

My question is, how, in the future, do we go about selling the '68' car which is carrying transferrable '65'plates ? Would we have to buy new, but pre-dated, 68 plates if the sale takes place in 2020 ? Still with me ?!

Cheers.

Its all here. When you transfer or retain your cherished number, part of the process is issuing a new plate to the vehicle the number is coming off of. When I got my number moved to a brand new car, the dealer did it all.

We bought my daughter a personalised number plate when she turned 18. She is 33 now, and has kept her number plate every time she has changed her car. It's an easy process and costs about, £80 I think.
