Car Aerial Won't Come Off

I have an 06 Kia Picanto. I can't get the aerial on the roof to come off so that I can take it through the car wash.

My strong son, armed with WD40 couldn't even get it to unscrew, using a set of pliers.

Any ideas what I can do, or will it need a brand new aerial and at what, cost?

If neither of you can't remove it, maybe it will survive the car wash?

I see at our local car wash, obstinate aerials are taped to the roof with strong plastic tape.

My son said that too, Baldric. What? Tank tape right across the roof?
Take it through as it is, it'll be fine.
Or use a jet wash and brush

I don't know what tape they use but it's only about 6" to 8" of it
Get it jet washed much easier
Car washes are wrongly named.
They should be ladelled,
MIRROR AND AERIAL REMOVERS"

I asked my son if I needed to wear wellies to jet wash it and he just Laughed!! I'll try the tape.
I never have, nor ever would, use a car wash or let anyone else wash my vehicle....I'm way too OCD about my car's paintwork!

Nah, ginge. They suit me fine.
Me too Chrissa and many a time the aerial hasn't complained either!
It should unscrew, chrissa. Most likely the threads have rusted together, might need something like a pair of mole grips to unscrew it.

I'll see if my son has a set, tonyav.
Use a jet wash !

I use a bucket and sponge to wash and a Hose to rinse so I can check every panel, really doesn't take long.
We call those Molegrips here n South Wales !

In fact, the place that they used to be produced is on the left-hand side of M4, just before you enter the Brynglas Tunnels, going west.

I think I've used to have a pair but never realised they were such strong grippers. I'll have a look in my man drawer. Lol.
Also, standard WD40 isn't the best for releasing seized threads, you want Plus Gas or WD40s specialist penetrant (oo-er missus)
